Murray Defeated in US Open Final

Roger Federer won his fifth consecutive US Open title on Monday, defeating scotsman Andy Murray.

Federer scooped the title by winning straight sets, 6-2, 7-5, 6-2 and he has become the first male to win five titles in a row.

A disappointed Murray said: "Ideally I would have preferred to be in his position but I don't think that was really the reason why he won the match.

"If he played like that and I was absolutely fresh I'm sure it still would have been a very tough ask for me to win. But ideally I would have liked to have a day off."

Murray, the former U.S. Open junior champion, won $750,000 and also picked up $250,000 bonus for finishing second behind Nadal in the US Open Series.

Federer pocketed $1.5 million and was awarded a Lexus car.
