Man Charged With Chinese Student Murders

A man has appeared in court today charged with the murder of two Chinese graduates who were found hacked to death earlier this year.

Guang Hui Cao, 30, of Castle Close, Morpeth, is accused of murdering Xi Zhou and her boyfriend, Zhen Xing Yang, both 25, according to Northumbria Police.

The pair were found dead in their ground floor flat in Croydon Road, Newcastle, in August.

Police made the discovery shortly after 4.30pm on August 9 after they were called to their 8 Croydon Road flat.

A Northumbria Police spokeswoman said the families of the two people who died have been informed of the developments.

Two other men who were arrested in connection with the killing have been released on bail, pending further inquiries.

Guang, who spoke through an interpreter to confirm his name and age, was remanded in custody during a hearing at Newcastle Magistrates' Court. He is due to appear before the city's crown court on 10 November.
