Rugby Union Player Released On Bail

A rugby union player has been arrested following an alleged street in fight in Bath. Gloucester and England player Lesley Vainikolo, 29, was held on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm, after a man in his 20s was taken to hospital with head injuries. The Tongan-born player has been released on bail. The man was originally thought to be in a critical condition, however, he has since been discharged. An Avon and Somerset police spokesman said there was "nothing to suggest" the injured man was a rugby player.

Drivers Urged To Take Care As Snow Falls

Motorists in Scotland have been warned to take extra care on the roads, as snowfall in the north east of the country have caused icy conditions. Snow fell in Aberdeen and outlying areas overnight. A number of minor accidents have been reported and drivers have been urged by Grampian Police to take extra care, especially on untreated roads.

Annual House Prices Drop 8% In September

Annual house prices in England and Wales fell by 8% in September to prices last seen in autumn 2006, according to the latest figures from Land Registry. The average house price is now £168,814 which is also a decrease month-on-month of 2.2%. London also experienced a decrease in its average property value over the last 12 months, with a movement of -1.5%, taking the average London house price to £328,927. Hartlepool again experienced the highest annual change with an increase of 4.7%, taking its average property price to £115,018. The most up-to-date figures available show that during July 2008 the number of completed house sales fell by 57% to 49,784 from 116,751 in July 2007.

£12m Security Facility Opens At Glasgow Airport

A new £12m security area has been opened at Glasgow airport. The facility will route all departing passengers through one central search area replacing the existing three security zones in the east pier, international and domestic areas. The new facility is part of a £31m extension to the terminal. The existing security zones will be refurbished into catering facilities, extra seating and new shops.

Halifax reports house prices rise
House prices rose by 1.6% in August, the UK’s biggest mortgage lender, has reported. However, the Halifax warned that the rise could be temporary, boosted by the recent interest rates cuts by the Bank of England. The price rise in August followed a modest 0.4% increase in July and was the biggest monthly rise since September 2004.

January House Prices Show Slight Increase
House prices in England and Wales increased by just 0.9% in January, according to the latest monthly figures from Land Registry. The increase takes the average house price to £186,045. However, the data shows a decline in annual house price changes, from 6.7% last month to 6.4% this month. London experienced annual price growth of 13.

House price inflation drops
Annual house price inflation dropped again in October, according to the latest figures from the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister. House price inflation was 2.2% in October, a fall from September’s figure of 3.3%. The ODPM reported that the average house price in the UK was £186,103 in October, compared with £186,755 in September.

UK house prices fall, report shows
UK house prices fell by 0.5% between January and February, figures from the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister (ODPM) have shown. The drop in prices, which saw the average house price in the UK in February fall to £179,491 from £180,465 in January, is smaller than the 1% fall reported in the same period last year.

House Prices Rise By 12% In June
UK annual house price inflation in June 2007 was 12.1%, up from 10.8% in May 2007. Annual house price inflation in London was 17.5% in June, up from 14.3% in May. The UK annual house price inflation rate for the 3 months to June was 11.3% and 15.1% in London. The UK house price inflation rate rose from 10.8% in May 2007 to 12.1% in June 2007.
