Amateur Footballer Dies During Stag Weekend
A 25-year-old amateur footballer has died during his stag party in Spain, according to the Foreign Office.
Tony Kyle, from the Exwick area of Exeter, is understood to have fallen from a balcony at his hotel in Lloret de Mar, on the Costa Brava on Saturday.
The roofer and keen footballer had flown to Gerona to celebrate his stag party. He was due to marry his fiancé Emma in February.
An official inquiry into Mr Kyle's death has been launched by the Spanish authorities, according to reports.
Players at Mr Kyle’s football team - Exeter-based non-league Heavitree Social United - called off their Devon Premier Cup tie at home, following the tragic news of the popular player's death.
The 25-year-old, who had played for several sides over the years, was described by friends as a "great, fun-loving lad" and a "talented player".
Mr Kyle played at Broadclyst Social for five years, until this season.
Broadclyst manager Paul Taylor said: "These are such sad circumstances. He was one of my closest friends in the team and we had a good relationship.
"He was a sound lad on and off the pitch and loved his football - he played Saturdays and Sundays.
"He was a very quick and talented player and a good goal scorer, especially in the final of the Devon Senior Cup last year."
Ross Webster, who also played at Broadclyst, paid tribute to his former teammate, saying: "He was a genuinely nice guy."
He added: "Nobody really knows what happened in Spain. Some news has filtered back to us but it's like Chinese whispers at the moment. We will know more when everyone comes back."
