Man Dies In Motorway Collision

A man has died in a collision on the A14 in Northamptonshire. The incident happened when a pick-up truck, travelling on the wrong way along the motorway collided with an articulated lorry. Another lorry then hit the rear of the first and a third was forced on to a grass bank. The man driving the pick–up truck - believed to be from north Wales - died in the crash. None of the lorry drivers were injured.

Drug Dealers Jailed For More Than 170 Years

Drug dealers from across Nottingham have been jailed for more than 170 years following the conclusion of a massive operation across the city. Police arrested 70 people during Operation Mojave, which began in the Radford area at the end of February and extended to homes in St Ann's, Clifton, Wollaton, Bulwell, Aspley, Sherwood and Mapperley. Heroin and cocaine, thousands of pounds in cash, guns and other weapons was found during searches at more than 50 addresses. Nathaniel Roberts, 22, of Nidderdale Close, Wollaton was given a five-year prison term after pleading guilty to being concerned in the supply of class A drugs. This brought the total amount of time for offenders sentenced to 172 years and seven months, with others handed community orders totalling 17 years.

£130m For New Fire Stations

£130 million has been set aside for Fire and Rescue Service projects to build new stations and other facilities, Fire Minister Sadiq Khan announced today. Fire and Rescue Services have been bidding for a share of Private Finance Initiative (PFI) credits for long-term projects to modernise the country's fire stations. Communities and Local Government announced the latest funding round in July. Cleveland, Country Durham and Darlington, Northumberland, Staffordshire and Surrey Fire and Rescue Services have all now been selected to develop their proposals in more detail. In anticipation, Communities and Local Government is setting aside £60m in PFI funding for the joint Cleveland, County Durham and Darlington and Northumberland proposal, £30m for the Staffordshire proposal and £35m for the proposal from Surrey Fire and Rescue Service.

Police Appeal For Burglary Information

Merseyside police are appealing for information following two separate burglaries in Aintree and Bootle. At 3.10am on Tuesday November 11, a burglary took place at the Altway Foodstore on Altway Aintree. Four to six men used a black pick up to reverse into the shop through the shutters. They then put a strap around the ATM and attempted to drive away with it. They left empty handed. The vehicle was last seen on Lancing Drive. The men are described as between 5'7" to 5'10" tall, all slim build and dressed in black, possibly track suits. The car is described as a black open backed pick up similar to a Mitsubishi L200 Warrior. The second incident took place at 'The Mons' public house at 4.05am the same day.

HSE Launches Safety Webpages

The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) has today launched a section of its website dedicated entirely aimed at providing support and advice to individuals and businesses in Wales on maintaining high standards of health and safety in workplaces. Launching the site, HSE Director for Wales Terry Rose said: "We already work closely with the Welsh Assembly Government, as well as local authorities and a range of other partners in promoting good health and safety in the workplace in Wales. The HSE Wales website gives details of news items, events and advice on protecting against risks to health and safety arising from work activities. It will be developed further in the coming months.

Heroic Tyne Firemen Honoured
Two Tyne and Wear firefighters are to be recognised for their bravery at a special ceremony today. Andrew Nelson and Allan Richardson will be presented with the Chief Fire Officer's Commendations for brave and meritorious conduct after saving a man's life. The men took part in a dramatic rescue in the early hours of 4 February.

Firefighters launch four-day strike
More than 1,000 firefighters across Merseyside have begun a four-day strike in protest over planned job cuts. Another four-day stoppage is scheduled to begin two hours after the first one ends.

Teenager Dies In Sand Tunnel Collapse
A teenager has died after a beach game turned to tragedy and a tunnel constructed in sand dunes collapsed around him. Emergency crews tried to resuscitate the boy after he was pulled out of the sand at Cefn Sidan beach, near Burry Port in Carmarthenshire, on Sunday evening.

Suspicious Glasgow Car Fires
Detectives in Glasgow's East End are investigating a spate of vehicle fire attacks in the city yesterday. Shortly after 3.30am police were called to a report of a vehicle fire in Ashvale Crescent, Glasgow. Upon arrival police were advised by Strathclyde Fire Service that four vehicles had been damaged by fire.

Chief Fire Officer Resigns Over Child Porn Arrest
A top fire officer for the West Midlands Fire Service has resigned after he was arrested on suspicion of making indecent images of children. West Midlands Police arrested Frank Sheehan, 55, yesterday at his home in Sutton Coldfield.
