Murder Trial Man Found Dead

An Oxfordshire man on trial for murdering his wife has been found dead in his cell at Bullingdon Prison. Russell Yeates of Bell Lane in Wheatley, had denied slitting 47-year-old Deborah Smith's throat at their home in May last year. The 49-year-old's trial, which was being held at Oxford Crown Court, was due to begin hearing evidence from the defence. The Prisons and Probation Ombudsman is due to conduct an investigation into his death.

Ronaldo To Be questioned Over Crash

Police have confirmed Manchester United forward Cristiano Ronaldo will be questioned after he crashed his Ferrari in a tunnel near Manchester Airport. The 23-year-old Portuguese International escaped injury after his car collided with a roadside barrier in a tunnel between Wilmslow and Hale, Cheshire at about 10.20am on Thursday. The red Ferrari was badly damaged in the collision and one of the wheels had come off in the incident and was found about 200 metres behind where the vehicle had come to rest. The Premiership club confirmed Ronaldo was not hurt and had taken part in training with his teammates after the crash. A Greater Manchester Police spokeswoman confirmed officers would be speaking to the player in due course.

Workers Urged To Know Their Rights

A new campaign to help boost workers' awareness of the increased national minimum wage comes to the East Midlands this week. Roadshows are being held in Leicester on Friday 9th and Saturday 10th January, Derby on Sunday 11th January and Nottingham on Thursday 22nd and Friday 23rd January. The "It's Your Call" campaign was launched in Downing Street by Business Secretary Lord Mandelson in November and is touring the UK over a three month period, stopping off at 28 towns and cities, giving workers advice on their entitlements and how to make a complaint if they have been underpaid.

David Fison Appointed To ODA Board

Olympics Minister Tessa Jowell has appointed David Fison to the Board of the Olympic Delivery Authority (ODA). David Fison has over 35 years' experience working in the construction sector. He was Chief Executive Officer of Skanska UK Plc, the UK arm of one of the world's leading construction services groups, from 2002 until July 2008. He spent a total of 10 years at Skanska, managing multi discipline businesses involving very large construction projects and support service operations. David Fison previously held senior management positions at construction firm Balfour Beatty.

Man Arrested After Trying To Access Bank Account Of Alps Murder Victim
A man has been arrested on suspicion of attempting to access the bank accounts of a Surrey father murdered in the French Alps. 50-year-old Saad al-Hilli, was shot dead along with his wife, mother-in-law and a cyclist near Annecy on 5 September.

UK Tourists Hurt In Greek Catamaran Crash
At least 25 people, most of whom are believed to be British, are reported to have been injured in a catamaran crash on the Greek holiday island of Kos. It is understood that the boat, the Aegean Cat, was travelling from the Turkish resort of Didim to Kos, when the crash happened.
