Missing Teen Found 'Safe And Well' In France

A missing schoolgirl has been found safe and well in France, according to police.

Laura Stainford, 15, from Cleethorpes, Lincolnshire was found with 49-year-old Robert Williams, following a major police hunt.

Humberside Police confirmed French police arrested Mr Williams after the pair attended the consulate in Lille. He has been taken into custody.

Police said they had previously received reports of sightings of Laura on the Pride of Kent Ferry, travelling from Dover to Calais last Thursday afternoon.

Detective Chief Inspector Sharon Fielding said: "It goes without saying I am delighted Laura has been found in Lille and we are now working alongside French authorities and Laura's family to ensure that she arrives back in the country as soon as possible and returns to her family.

"There is still a lot of work to be done however, and we are working to ensure the extradition of Williams."

She added: "I would like to thank all of the members of public who assisted by reporting numerous sightings of Laura, one of which led us to locating Laura in Lille and would also like to thank local, national and European media for their help in facilitating our appeals."

Humberside Police released CCTV footage of Laura with Mr Williams at Grimsby Railway Station on Wednesday.

Detectives believe they took a train to Doncaster, South Yorkshire, before travelling to London, and on to Dover.

A member of the public then spotted Laura in Dover the following day.

They were last seen on a ferry heading from Dover to Calais on Thursday.
