Harrods Boss Will Not Face Charges
Harrods owner Mohamed Al Fayed will not face any charges over an allegation he sexually assaulted a 15-year-old girl.
The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) confirmed police had carried out extensive inquiries, but there was "no realistic prospect of conviction".
Al Fayed, strenuously denied the allegations and said he was "shocked" that details about the damaging allegation were "leaked" to the media.
The allegations emerged in May last year, when it was claimed the Harrods boss had assaulted the girl at his central London department store.
The Metropolitan Police interviewed him under caution at the time, however the CPS said there was "no realistic prospect of conviction".
A CPS spokesman said: "Having reviewed statements and other material submitted to us, we concluded that, in the light of the conflicting evidence and the absence of sufficiently reliable accounts of crucial events, there was no realistic prospect of conviction."
Egyptian-born Al Fayed, who also owns Fulham Football club, had "vehemently denied" the allegations and was "confident that his name will be cleared", his spokesman said.
