Man Arrested Over Footballer's Home Raid

A man has been arrested on suspicion of burgling the home of Manchester United footballer Darren Fletcher and threatening his fiancée at knifepoint.

The 28-year-old was detained on suspicion of aggravated burglary and bailed until 14 May, a police spokesman confirmed.

Three hooded men broke into the Scotland international's home, which he shares with fiancée Hayley Grice and their twin sons.

Ms Grice was grabbed by the hair, while her engagement ring was ripped from her finger during the incident at the player's £1.5 million mansion in Bowdon, Greater Manchester.

The raid took place while the Manchester United midfielder was playing an away match in Europe last week.

A statement from Greater Manchester Police said: "A man has been arrested in connection with a robbery at a house in Bowdon, Trafford.

"Shortly before 9pm on 23 February, police were called to a house following a report of an armed robbery.

"Officers attended and found that robbers had threatened two women. Two young children, twins aged two, were also in the house. An engagement ring, jewellery and watches were stolen."

Fletcher, 25, is thought to be the 14th Premiership footballer to be targeted in Manchester and Merseyside, by burglars, in the last three years.
