Five Dead After Head-On Crash
A six-year-old girl is among the five people who died in a car crash in Merseyside on Sunday.
The girl died along with three woman, in a Vauxhall Corsa after it crashed head-on with a Renault Megane in the Wirral.
The driver of the Megane also died.
Corsa driver Ann Hargreaves, 71, of Bromborough, her sister Linda Wood, 59, of Eastham, and Mrs Wood's granddaughter Olivia Wood, six, died.
Joan Roden-Jones, 64, of Wrexham, and the Megane driver, 73, also died.
Ms Roden-Jones was also a passenger in the Corsa.
It is understood one of the cars veered off the link road to the M53 motorway and hit a wall before it rebounded head-on into the other car.
Ambulance officials said the girl, two of the women and the man were pronounced dead at the scene of the smash in Poulton just before midday.
The other victim was taken to nearby Arrowe Park Hospital with multiple injuries but died later.
Inspector Dave Corcoran, of Merseyside Police, said: "The families of the victims have now been informed. Our thoughts are with them at this time.
"We would ask anyone who witnessed this incident to make contact with us."

Missing girl – body found in wood
Police have launched a murder investigation after the body of a missing girl was discovered in Leigh, Greater Manchester. The body is believed to be that of ten-year-old Lauren Pilkington-Smith, from Twist Lane in Leigh, who was reported missing on Thursday night.

Warning issued over letter bomb
Police investigating the posting of an explosive device to the headquarters of the Cambridge Labour Party have warned businesses, householders and community organisations in the area to be alert. The device was posted to the party's headquarters at Alex Wood Hall in Norfolk Street in Cambridge.

Murder Accused Found Dead In Jail
A man accused of a double murder has been found dead in his cell by West Midlands Police. Rimvydas Liorancas, 37, was found dead on Saturday, January 28 at Woodhill Prison in Thames Valley. He was found hanging in his cell early in the morning before staff attempted to resuscitate him.

Appeal Following Fatal Crash In Rotherham
Police are appealing for witnesses following a fatal collision in the Maltby area of Rotherham. A silver Rover 45 and a silver Mercedes estate car were involved in a head-on collision on the A631 Tickhill Road at Maltby on Sunday 17 May. The driver of the Rover, an 88-year-old man, was taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The body of a 14-year-old girl has been found at a house in Greater Manchester, with injuries thought to be consistent with her having been attacked by dogs. Jade Lomas-Anderson is believed to have been visiting the property in Atherton, Wigan, where reports say there was a pack of five dogs that were "aggressive and out of control".
