Murder Accused Found Dead In Jail

A man accused of a double murder has been found dead in his cell by West Midlands Police.

Rimvydas Liorancas, 37, was found dead on Saturday, January 28 at Woodhill Prison in Thames Valley. He was found hanging in his cell early in the morning before staff attempted to resuscitate him.

Liorancas had been charged with the murders of Avtar and Carole Kolar at their homes in Handsworth Wood, earlier this month.

Police said their investigation into the murders will continue and the completed findings will now be presented to the coroner at the inquest.

A Prison Service spokesperson said this morning: "As with all deaths in custody, the Prisons and Probation Ombudsman will conduct an investigation."

The family of Carole and Avtar were informed of the news and police said they are continuing to support them.

The family have released the following statement: "We were made aware of the death of Liorancas by police on Saturday. We understand the investigation into our parents' deaths will continue and the findings be presented to the coroner.

"We ask that we be left alone as we continue to grieve over the deaths of our mum and dad."
