Mother Sentenced Over Death Of Baby Son

A 27-year-old woman is to be sentenced for a "horrific" campaign of cruelty against her baby son.

Claire Biggs, of Newham, repeatedly crushed her two-month-old son Rhys's chest, fracturing numerous ribs.

The baby's wrist and shoulder were also broken in the attacks. The court heard the injuries weren't discovered until it was too late, and the baby died.

Medical experts told Inner London Crown Court "severe" force must have been used each time, causing "extreme pain".

Former crack addict Biggs, who already has one child in care on the "at risk" register, was charged with child cruelty as the cause of Rhys's death could not be established. She was convicted of "wilful assault" and injuring the two-month-old.

Paul Husband, 33, Biggs' live-in partner, was also convicted on the basis of "wilful neglect", for ignoring the baby's pain and failing to get him medical assistance.
