Channel Blockade Lifted As Talks Begin
An offer of talks on an apparent offer of cash aid from the French government has today halted a blockade of Channel ports in France.
Ferry services from Dover have resumed after French fishermen ended their blockade of Calais and Dunkirk ports.
As a result, thousands of holidaymakers and hauliers trying to cross the Channel will avoid a third day of disruption in an escalating dispute over EU fishing quotas.
Protesters are now to discuss an offer of cash aid from the French government; however, the port of Boulogne remains closed.
P&O and SeaFrance ferries have resumed. Norfolkline is also in operation.
French Fisheries Minister Michel Barnier has reportedly offered four million euros in aid to fishermen in the north of France, but has rejected demands to increase fishing quotas.
A spokeswoman for P&O said on Thursday morning: "The blockade is being lifted for today.
"We can start as soon as possible to get ships moving and resume a normal service as soon as possible."

Brother No Longer Main Suspect In Killing Of British Family In French Alps
At an update meeting on the case of the deaths of three Britons and a cyclist in the French Alps, police have said their main line of enquiry remains a dispute over family inheritance. Saad al-Hilli was shot dead along with his wife, Iqbal, her mother Suhaila al-Allaf and French cyclist Sylvain Mollier on 05 September 2012.

Female French Student Killed On 'Boris Bike'
A 20-year-old female French student has died after the 'Boris Bike' she was riding was involved in a collision with a lorry. The incident happened in east London on Friday evening. The victim has not yet been named as authorities have not yet been able to inform her next of kin.

Single Gun Used In French Alps Murders
In the ongoing investigation into the killing of four members of a British family while on holiday in the French Alps, and a local cyclist, French police have said just one gun was used. Officials told reporters in Annecy that ballistics tests found 25 spent cartridges left at the scene, which came from a 7.65mm calibre semi-automatic pistol.

Protesting Fishermen Halt Channel Crossings
News that ferry operator P&O has cancelled all Dover to Calais crossings due to a blockade by French fishing boats has increased pressure on other cross channel traffic. The blockade at the port of Calais is now said to be causing motorway disruption in Kent, police have said.
