Boys Die After House Fire

Two young boys rescued from a house fire in West Yorkshire have died from their injuries, it has emerged. The boys, aged two and four, were pulled from the burning house in Rashcliffe Hill Road, Folly Hall, Huddersfield, by firefighters. They were taken to hospital by ambulance but were pronounced dead a short time later. The cause of the blaze, which started just after 1pm on Wednesday, is being investigated but is not thought to be suspicious. Three fire crews and three ambulance crews were called to the house.

Offshore Company Axes Jobs

Around 150 jobs in Aberdeen and Dundee have been axed after an offshore services company ceased trading. Oceanteam Power and Umbilical has been forced to close when the firm's holding company withdrew its financial support. Staff are based in Aberdeen, at workshops in Dundee and offshore.

Pair Killed In Head-On Collision

A couple have died after the car they were travelling in was involved in a head-on collision with a lorry on the A69 in Cumbria. The crash happened near the Waterloo pub in Aglionby, just outside Carlisle on Tuesday evening. Cumbria Police said the victims were a young couple in the car. They believe the vehicle may have been travelling in convoy with two others.

Arrested Follow Policeman's Assault

Three men have been arrested following the assault of a policeman on duty in South Tyneside. The Northumbria officer sustained minor injuries after being attacked on a call out to a disturbance on Henderson Road, South Shields. A 33-year-old man has been arrested by on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm. Two other men, aged 19 and 23, have been arrested on suspicion of criminal damage and theft.

Police Taser Window-Balance Man

Police have had to use a Taser to detain a man who was balancing on a window at a Salford flat. Police were called to the sixth floor flat in Pear Tree Court in Pendleton, following reports from concerned residents. A man was seen throwing items from a window at one of the flats before climbing on to an open window. He was later detained inside the flat. According to Greater Manchester Police, a man was arrested on suspicion of affray and was in police custody.

Police Investigate Armed Robbery

Armed police in Wales have been called to a post office after reports of an armed robbery. Police received reports of an incident at Briton Ferry Post on Neath Road, Neath, just before 9am on Wednesday. Local councillor Hugh James said it was the third robbery in the area. He said there were two post offices in Neath Road but police activity centred on the main branch. Mr James said officers had cordoned off the back lanes and there was a large police presence. He said: "This is obviously a shocking incident for a place like Briton Ferry, it's a popular post office and lots of elderly people use it. It's been quite shocking because we have had three incidents on that road in recent months."

British Man Dies In Dubai Police Custody
A British man has died in police custody in Dubai. Lee Bradley Brown, 39, from east London, died on Tuesday after he was taken to a Dubai police station where he was allegedly assaulted and put into a cell. It has been reported that Mr Brown, was arrested over a row at the luxury hotel Burj Al Arab hotel.

Man Arrested Over Kent Doctor's Murder
A 21-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the murder of a doctor in Kent. Consultant paediatrician Dr Victoria Anyetei, 54, was found in her car in the driveway of her home in Dartford on August 14. She had been stabbed to death. Kent Police said that the man was arrested on suspicion of murder at an address in Dartford.

Wanted Man Arrested In London
The man wanted in connection with the murder of a 66-year-old man who intervened during a robbery, has been arrested. Ian John McLoughlin, 55, was arrested in London at around 01:00. He was wanted on suspicion of murder and robbery. Airports and ports had been put on alert as police hinted for McLoughlin.

Man Arrested Over Murder Of Missing Teenager
Police have said a man arrested over the disappearance of a teenager in Shropshire is now being questioned on suspicion of her murder. Georgia Williams, 17, was last seen leaving her home on Sunday. On Wednesday, a 22-year-old man from Telford was arrested in Glasgow on suspicion of kidnapping Ms Williams.

Two 14-Year-Old Boys Charged With Manslaughter
Two 14-year-old boys have been charged with manslaughter following the death of a 41-year-old father-of-two in Leicester. Ponnuthurai Nimalaraja, known as Nimal, was assaulted at the junction of Gypsy Lane and Northfield Road shortly after 23:00 on 9 June. Mr Nimalaraja died in hospital on 16 June, one week after being attacked.
