Pilot Detained After Aircraft Crash

The pilot of a microlight vehicle that crashed in Gloucestershire woodland has been arrested on suspicion of flying while drunk.

The aircraft crashed in woodland at St Briavels Common, near Brockweir, Gloucs at around 5.15pm on Monday. It had taken off in Middlesex.

The 39-year-old man from Cheltenham was detained on suspicion of flying the plane without a licence and flying while over the alcohol limit.

He was later released on bail to return to Gloucester Police Station on June 23.

The pilot was treated in hospital for a leg injury, while his passenger, a man from Quedgeley, suffered back pain.

An investigation into the deaths of four men in a helicopter crash has found that the pilot was attempting a landing when disaster struck. The Robinson R44 had been carrying out "low level circling manoeuvres" when it crashed near Kendal on August 3, last year.

Helicopter collision investigation launched
An investigation has been launched following a mid-air collision between two military helicopters which left one person dead and three people injured. The two Squirrel aircraft collided at an airfield at RAF Tern Hill, Shropshire, just before 3pm on Wednesday. The Ministry of Defence confirmed that two personnel were onboard each aircraft.
