Officer 'Seriously Injured' In Stop Check Crash

Police in Weston-super-Mare are appealing for witnesses after an officer was seriously injured while carrying out a vehicle stop-check.

The Avon and Somerset officer was with a colleague in a marked police car when it was struck by a black Mercedes on the A370, near Morrisons at around 2.00pm on Tuesday.

The police officer was thrown forward and received broken bones, a collapsed lung and head injuries. He remains in hospital in a serious condition.

Two other occupants who were also in the Mercedes received less serious injuries and were released from hospital following treatment.

Police want to speak to anyone who witnessed the incident, or who may have seen the stationary police car beforehand.
