Pregnant Woman And Baby Killed In Stabbing
The unborn child of a young woman who was stabbed in a "completely random" attack, has also died, police have confirmed.
Humberside police said the 21-year-old mother-to-be Claire Wilson was on her way to work when she was attacked by a man she did not know in a street on the edge of Grimsby town centre, in north east Lincolnshire on Sunday.
The woman, from the town, who was on her way to work at a local Pizza Hut restaurant, was taken to the Diana, Princess of Wales Hospital, but she died from her injuries.
Det Supt Christine Kelk said the victim was walking by herself on Pasture Street when she was stabbed in the back outside a coach hire firm.
"The tragic thing about this is that it was completely random," she said.
"She was walking to work locally on her own at the time."
Det Supt Kelk said: "It is quite possible that a number of people in the town centre around the time of the incident may have seen the suspect as he walked to [the scene].
"I would ask that these people come forward urgently as any information, no matter how small it may seem, may be vital to the investigation."
A notice pinned to the door of Pizza Hut were Claire worked read: "This restaurant will remain closed until Wednesday June 10 due to the unfortunate incident involving Claire Wilson, a valued and much-loved member of our team.
"Our thoughts and prayers go out to all of Claire's family and friends."
