Man Questioned Over Pensioner Stabbing

A 22-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after an elderly woman was attacked in London.

Ann Driscoll, 82, was stabbed nine times in the neck and stomach on the street as she walked home from a shopping trip in Harlesden, north west London.

Mrs Driscoll, who was found covered in blood in Fortune gate Road as she attempted to stagger home to her husband, is described as "stable" in a north London hospital.

Her husband, Cornelius Driscoll, 85, said his wife had to make the trip to the shops because he was unable to walk for the past four weeks due to a leg problem.

The 82-year-old had visited the Tesco in Harlesden High Street at 2.20pm before travelling on a number 18 bus. It is understood she was attacked in Burns Road at about 3.00pm, before staggering to Fortune Gate Road, where a member of the public came to her assistance.

Police arrested a 22-year-old man in the early hours of Friday at an address in Harlesden. He is being held at a north London station.
