Teacher Quizzed Over Attempted Murder Allegation

A science teacher has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder following an alleged attack against a 14-year-old boy at a school in Nottinghamshire.

Peter Harvey, 49, who was arrested yesterday following the incident at All Saints’ Roman Catholic School in Mansfield, is also being quizzed about alleged attacks on two other children, police have confirmed.

The pupil, who suffered a serious head injury in the alleged attack, became involved in the incident at All Saints' Roman Catholic School in Broomhill Lane, Mansfield at about 11.00am on Wednesday.

The teenager, who has not been named, was initially taken to Kings Mill Hospital in the town, but has since been moved to the Queen's Medical Centre in Nottingham for specialist treatment after his condition deteriorated.

Nottinghamshire County Council said the boy's condition "slightly improved overnight". The other two pupils were reportedly less seriously hurt.

A spokeswoman for Nottinghamshire Police said a 49-year-old man was arrested and remained in custody.

She said: "The police investigation is being led by Detective Superintendent Adrian Pearson, with specialist officers from the public protection unit.

"They are working with the headteacher and staff at All Saints' Roman Catholic School."

Det Supt Pearson said it was a "very serious assault" and there were a number of witnesses".

The spokeswoman said the boy's family had asked for privacy.

In a statement Nottinghamshire County Council said: "An incident involving a pupil at All Saints' School occurred. The student was injured and has been taken to hospital where he is receiving treatment.

"The parent of the pupil involved have been informed.

"The matter is currently being investigated and it would be inappropriate to make any further comment while the investigation is ongoing."
