Body Found In Car

The police in Wales have arrested a man after a woman's body was found in a vehicle which they had stopped. Dyfed-Powys Police closed the A487 between Aberaeron and Aberarth in Ceredigion following the discovery this morning and officers said the road was likely to remain closed for much of the morning as the investigation continued. Police said the inquiry was still in its early stages. The woman's next of kin have been informed.

Man 'Jumps' Bail - Into Sea

A man has been taken to the Royal Cornwall Hospital where he is under guard after apparently jumping into the sea from cliffs in Cornwall to evade arrest. He is alleged to have skipped bail in Lancashire and a search, involving a police helicopter, a RNAS Culdrose helicopter, coastguards, a cliff rescue team, and the RNLI lifeboat began at 10pm last night. However, when the 37-year-old was eventually spotted on cliffs at Sennen Cove, he jumped into the sea to get away. He was picked up by lifeboats. A spokesman from Devon and Cornwall Police said the man had failed to answer bail at Preston Crown Court.

Scottish Police Cash-strapped

A cash shortfall faced by Scotland's biggest police force could grow as large as £34.7m, it has emerged. The warning about Strathclyde Police came from the convener of the force's police authority, Paul Rooney, who outlined a "dire financial situation". It is understood that, at best, there will be a £12.4m hole in the budget. At worst, it could reach £34.7m. Opposition parties said the issue could hit frontline policing and called on the Scottish Government to help.

Bikini Record Stands

A bid in Essex to set a new world record for the number of women being photographed wearing bikinis in one place has failed. Organisers of the Bikini Beach Bash 2 said not enough people turned up in Southend-on-Sea earlier to help set a new record. The current record is 1,923, which was set in Russia in July. "Terrible weather" on Saturday halted plans by many to attend on Sunday, as only a few hundred turned up. Next year is to include men in bikini bottoms to help boost numbers.
