Boy Loses Sight In Mugging
A teenage boy has lost the sight in one eye after being assaulted during a robbery in Halesowen.
The 15-year-old was walking along New John Street after 10pm on Tuesday September 1 when two men walked up to him and ordered him to hand over personal items.
The main offender then punched him in the face, causing a severe eye injury.
The boy returned home, and relatives then took him to hospital where he received emergency treatment.
But the victim's sight could not be saved in his right eye.
His attackers escaped with just his mobile phone from the robbery.
The boy had been a keen athlete and was a member of a local running club in Halesowen prior to the attack, police said.
"He has since had to give up his membership, as a result of losing his sight. The injury has also greatly affected his college education," said a spokesman.
The main offender is described as a white man in his late teens to early 20s, around 5'9" tall, with broad shoulders, of large build with a round face, of an unkempt appearance, and has a Midland accent.
He was wearing a black hooded jacket with a 'Nike' logo to the chest, and black bottoms.
The second offender was also a white man, slightly younger in his mid to late teens, around 5'8" tall, of medium build, and was wearing dark clothing.
Witnesses, or anyone with information relating to the attack, have been urged to contact police.

More than two million people in the UK are at risk of needlessly losing their sight through treatable eye conditions, according to a new report. The Royal National Institute for the Blind (RNIB) said that 1.9 million people with diabetes and 250,000 people with early-stage glaucoma are unknowingly risking blindness.

Obese people are twice as likely to lose their sight, a report by the Royal National Institute of the Blind has warned. The report warned that obesity doubled the risk of developing dry age-related macular degeneration - one of the leading causes of sight loss in the UK.

Firework Attacks Blinds Boy In One Eye
A 14-year-old boy has lost vision in one eye after being hit in the face with a rocket firework. The teenager was deliberately attacked while playing with three friends in a children's area on fields near Duchy Road, in Salford, when the incident occurred at around19:30 GMT on 5 November.

Police Appeal For Missing 16-Year-Old
Police have appealed for help in tracing 16-year-old Joseph Ogun, who has been missing since Monday, 07 September. Police said they are "increasingly concerned" for his welfare. He is described as a black boy, 5ft 8ins tall, of large build and with dark cropped hair. It is not known what he was last seen wearing.

A major fire at a former Birds Eye factory in Grimsby has been successfully tackled by firefighters. Around 80 firefighters tackled the blaze at the disused factory, which broke out shortly after 7pm on Wednesday.
