Real IRA admit to Newry firebombs
The Real IRA has today claimed responsibility for carrying out the fire-bomb attacks on County Down businesses earlier this week.
The paramilitary organisation, which is responsible for carrying out the Omagh atrocity in 1998, claimed to leaving incendiary devices, which destroyed four shops in Newry in the early hours of Wednesday morning.
TK Maxx, JJB Sports, MFI and Carpetright were all destroyed in the blaze, with a number of other premises sustaining thousands of pounds worth of damage.
The admission came after Newry and Mourne District Council Chiefs and business leaders met to discuss the prospect of getting the businesses up and running.
SDLP mayor for Newry, Michael Carr said: "The Real IRA should examine their motives. Their cause is not a blow for Ireland, but a blow against their own communities."
Mr Carr added that these businesses will be given every support, including attempts to have them temporarily re-located as soon as possible.

Man Arrested In Connection With Omagh Bombing
A man has been arrested in connection with the 1998 Omagh bombing. Police arrested the man in Newry area, and say he is being held and questioned in Antrim. Twenty-nine people were killed in the Real IRA attack of 15 August 1998. The bombing has been described as the single worst atrocity in over 30 years of violence.

£250k Resurfacing Announced For Newry Road
A major £250,000 road resurfacing scheme has been announced for the A25 Newry Road. The works will comprise of approximately 0.65km of carriageway resurfacing of the A25 Newry Road through Camlough village, from south of the U1583, known as Hall Road, to just beyond C217 Chapel Road roundabout.
