Family Awaits P7 Girl Post-Mortem
The family of a girl from Northern Ireland who died suddenly during a school trip to Scotland are awaiting news of how she died.
11-year-old Ruby Dench was in her final year at Whiteabbey Primary in County Antrim.
Her class had taken a trip to Loch Inch Outdoor Centre in Scotland, when she was found unconscious. She later died.
The group had been scheduled to return on Friday, but teachers and pupils were sent home on Wednesday instead.
The BBC has reported that Ruby said she felt unwell and was found at 02:30 on Wednesday morning.
She was later pronounced dead at Raigmore Hospital in Inverness and her death is as yet unexplained.
Education Minister John O’Dowd made an announcement following the news.
"It was with deep sadness and regret that I heard about the death of a pupil from Whiteabbey Primary School while on a school trip," he said.
"My thoughts are with the child’s family and indeed the pupils, teachers and wider school community at what is a profoundly distressing time.
"The North Eastern Education and Library Board stands ready to provide support, including access to counselling, to the pupils and teachers in the days and weeks ahead."

Boy dies in swimming pool incident
An eight-year-old boy has died following an incident at a school swimming pool in County Fermanagh. The victim has been named as eight-year-old Paul Bogue, from Garvary, in Enniskillen, who is believed to have got into difficulty while playing in the outdoor swimming pool in the Portora School in Enniskillen, on Tuesday.

‘School Watch’ launched by primary school pupils
Children from Acorn Integrated Primary School in Carrickfergus have today helped launch a new initiative to protect school property from vandals. ‘School Watch’ has been developed by the Policing Board, PSNI and the Northern Ireland Office Community Safety Unit.

Portadown Pupils Attacked During School Trip In Manchester
A group of schoolchildren from Northern Ireland have been assaulted by a gang of youths during a school excursion to Manchester. Up to 10 teenage pupils from Portadown College were attacked and some had to receive hospital treatment. No-one was seriously injured in the incident.
