Woman injured in grenade attack has leg amputated

A grandmother who was injured when a grenade was thrown into her Liverpool home has had to have a leg amputated.

Esther Jones, 63, was injured in the attack at her house in Canning Street, Toxteth, on Thursday evening.

Doctors at Whiston Hospital have also amputated a finger and were fighting to save her other leg on Monday.

Merseyside Police have appealed to the criminal fraternity in Toxteth to come forward with information about the source of the hand grenade.

Ms Jones was left with shrapnel wounds to her leg and back following the explosion.

Attempted murder

She had been in the front room of the house when the device was thrown into the window.

Three children - aged four months to seven years - who were in the house were treated for shock after the blast.

Merseyside Police are treating the incident as attempted murder.

Mother And Son Shot In Salford
A 29-year-old woman and her seven-year-old son have been shot at their home in Salford. Police have reported the mother and son suffered leg injuries in the incident in Gillingham Road, Eccles, on Monday night. It is understood their injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

Pair Jump From Window To Escape Apartment Fire
Two people have been treated in hospital after jumping from a window to escape a fire. According to reports a man in his 30s suffered serious leg injuries after jumping 20ft from an upper window of a flat in Tipton, West Midlands. A woman also received treatment for the effects of smoke inhalation.

January House Prices Show Slight Increase
House prices in England and Wales increased by just 0.9% in January, according to the latest monthly figures from Land Registry. The increase takes the average house price to £186,045. However, the data shows a decline in annual house price changes, from 6.7% last month to 6.4% this month. London experienced annual price growth of 13.

UK annual house price inflation in June 2007 was 12.1%, up from 10.8% in May 2007. Annual house price inflation in London was 17.5% in June, up from 14.3% in May. The UK annual house price inflation rate for the 3 months to June was 11.3% and 15.1% in London. The UK house price inflation rate rose from 10.8% in May 2007 to 12.1% in June 2007.

House price inflation drops
Annual house price inflation dropped again in October, according to the latest figures from the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister. House price inflation was 2.2% in October, a fall from September’s figure of 3.3%. The ODPM reported that the average house price in the UK was £186,103 in October, compared with £186,755 in September.
