About Physiofit

Physiofit is a Ballyclare based physiotherapy and sports-injury clinic. But over the past 7 years we have expanded our scope with complementary medicine techniques. Physiofit will offer therapeutic treatments with the purpose of providing a personal and professional service locally to all our patients, without having to travel too far.

At Physiofit only Chartered Physiotherapists will assess and treat you, all of whom will have experience in a wide variety of disorders such as:

You will initially receive an assessment and diagnosis before we initiate treatment. You will receive an explanation of your condition, suggestions and advice on how to treat it. You will be able to make an informed choice about which treatment you prefer.

  • Musculo-skeletal injuries: Pain in areas such as back-neck or conditions such as muscle and ligament sprains, joint pain or rehabilitation after fractures and surgeries including joint replacements and reconstructive surgery.

  • Sport injuries: we have extensive experience in team / contact sports as well as endurance and youth sports, which requires special care. Many sports people have suffered injuries but what all can agree upon is that early intervention is crucial. We see a wide range of sports people, from recreational to school and professional athletes.

  • Chronic Pain: Many people suffer from lower or upper back pain acutely and the large majority will continue to suffer flare ups or re-injury. This is not always their own fault, as work and home situations may have specific demands which aren’t conducive of healing.

  • Pre and post: surgical rehabilitation: Conditions such as ACL knee surgery or hip and knee replacements are often rehabilitated in Physiofit. We also treat post-surgical shoulder injuries such as decompressions, rotator cuff repairs and various SLAP lesion repairs.

  • Other conditions: Conditions such as TMJ pains (jaw), vertigo or dizziness due to inner ear disorders, arthritic pains and conditions such as headaches, migraines and other unexplained pains can find resolution in our clinic with the help of a series of techniques which we have found helpful in relieving pain.

Therapies Offered
We provide the following therapies for our patients:

  • Electrotherapy: Laser, Interferential stimulation, muscle stimulation, Ultrasound and electromagnetic pulses.

  • Manual Therapy: such as joint mobilisations, Mulligan techniques, manipulations, soft-tissue release.

  • Spinal Traction table: Many spinal problems get significant relief or completely resolve with spinal traction for both upper and lower back pain. Particularly nerve related injury of the spine appear to respond well.

  • Acupuncture: This Chinese medicine technique consists of inserting needles into the skin at specific points to influence the movement and energy flow in the body. This change of energy flow can lead to pain relief, better movement and overall improvement in healing. Lately more scientific research suggests that acupuncture is effective in the case of many conditions. We only treat patients with single use needles only. You will be in the hands of a fully qualified physiotherapist with a diploma in acupuncture. If you are a regular blood donor we can provide you with a certificate.

  • The Bowen Technique: This soft tissue technique can be extremely useful for patients with multiple problems. The therapist uses his thumbs or fingers to make a series of precise, rolling type moves over muscle, ligament or tendon. There are short breaks allowed for the body to respond to the gentle moves. The technique helps to rebalance, relieve tension and reduces pain. The treatment will last 45 minutes is performed directly on the skin or through light clothing.

  • Kinesio taping: There are specific taping techniques for sports related and overuse injuries. This flexible stretchy tape helps in a number of ways to increase the rehabilitation effect from the therapy the patients receives.

  • Pilates Classes: These classes have especially been designed to re-strengthen the core muscles around the pelvic region. This will improve your posture, will eliminate longstanding back pain, reduces muscle pain through better alignment and hastens recovery after pregnancy, abdominal or back surgery. It is also recommended for sport people to upgrade their core strength to prevent injury and maximize their performance level.

We currently run the Pilates classes every Tuesday evening from 18:00 to 19:00 at Physiofit with a physiotherapist as instructor. There are 6 one hour classes per group, all equipment provided. Please call Physiofit to find out when the next class starts.

  • Home visits: At Physiofit we offer the opportunity of home visits for people who can’t make it to Physiofit. Appointment times can sometimes be somewhat restricted so an early call may be required.
