Toddler Dies In Car Accident

A two-year-old girl has died after a collision with a car in Denton.

The accident happened shortly before 9am and involved a child and a car, which was reversing out of a drive at Palatine Mews in Denton.

Paramedics treated the toddler at the scene and she was taken to Tameside General Hospital, where she later died.

It is understood the young girl suffered serious head injuries.

The driver of the car was not injured, but was treated at Manchester Royal Infirmary for shock.

An investigation into the collision is underway and any witnesses should call 0161 856 8473.

In other news, a two-year-old boy who was struck by a car on 23 June in Lewisham has died in hospital.

The accident occurred at around 10pm when the toddler was hit by a vehicle in Woolstone Road, Forest Hill.

He was admitted to King's College Hospital, Denmark Hill, where he later died.

Witness accounts say that the boy became trapped under the vehicle and was dragged underneath as it skidded to a stop.

Firefighters from Forest Hill station attended the scene, and bizarrely they also had to restrain people who were trying to take pictures on their mobile phones.

Man Charged Over Hospital Murder
A man has been charged in connection with the murder of a female patient at a psychiatric hospital in Greater Manchester. The 58-year-old woman was assaulted in a ward at Birch Hill Hospital in Rochdale on Monday evening. She was taken to Rochdale Royal Infirmary, but died later.

Children Died In Car With 'Incompetent' Modifications
A Lincolnshire father who crashed his Land Rover into a river, killing four of his seven children, has gone on trial today. Nigel Gresham, 37, from Chapel Hill in Lincolnshire, appeared at Lincoln Crown Court today causing the deaths of Willow, two, Angel, four, Thor, six and eight-year-old Keavy on September 16, last year.

Four Questioned About Double Shooting
Four men are being questioned by the police after a double shooting left one man dead and a teenager injured in southeast London. The incident happened in East Dulwich on Thursday afternoon and the police confirmed a 21-year-old man was killed and a teenager was taken to hospital with a gunshot wound.

Teenager rescued from sea dies
A 15-year-old boy rescued from the sea off Norfolk has died. A lifeboat crew rescued the boy who had got into difficulties while swimming with another boy off Wells-Next-the-Sea, Norfolk. He was located by the lifeboat and was airlifted to hospital. But he later died shortly after being admitted to Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital.

Police continue to hold suspects over failed car bombings
Police are continuing to question six suspects in the UK, held in connection with the failed car bombings in London and Glasgow. Meanwhile it has emerged that some of the suspects were known to MI5 before the attacks took place. However, according to reports, the known suspects were regarded as low priority.
