Ford Meets Policing Board Members

The man who has just taken on responsible for justice and policing at Stormont has been welcomed by the Northern Ireland Policing Board.

David Ford attended his first meeting as Justice Minister at Board Headquarters in Belfast this week.

Speaking after the meeting, Acting Chairman Brian Rea (pictured with Mr Ford) said: "The meeting provided an opportunity to discuss a range of policing issues including future police funding, the Public Services College at Desertcreat and the current security situation.

"This was a very positive first discussion and the Board is looking forward to developing good working relations with the Minister and his Department and further building confidence in policing and the wider criminal justice system."

Mr Ford, who is also Alliance party leader, briefed Board Members on key priorities for his Department in the coming year including future arrangements for District Policing Partnerships and Community Safety Partnerships.

He said: "The Board has been central to the excellent progress that has been made on policing in recent years.

"I look forward to working with Members and the Chief Constable as we move forward for the benefit of the entire community."
