CIM international chair goes to local man
The Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM) has seen a major shake-up in its governance structure, driven mainly by growing internationalism, with its New International Chairman coming from Northern Ireland.
Mike Johnston, who is Chief Executive of the Dairy Council for Northern Ireland, took over as International Chairman of CIM at its AGM on December 11.
In commenting on the new governance structure Mr Johnston said: “I will ensure CIM punches its weight”. He added: “It’s about time employers wakened up to what they’re missing if they don’t employ a CIM member for their marketing jobs. We have members who have considerable potential to contribute to improved performance within firms.
“To be a member of CIM means that you have had to demonstrate academic ability and knowledge of Marketing. On top of this a member has at least two years practical Marketing experience. That’s the definition of a CIM member.”
In looking forward to his role as International Chairman, Mr Johnston said there would be both challenges and opportunities ahead but the real challenges were to ensure the new structure were tightly controlled.
However he stressed the opportunities were enormous CIM would bring to champion marketing and the benefits it would deliver for firms. (MB)
