PSNI Station Bomb Alert
It has emerged that the police have found the remains of what they believe is an exploded pipe bomb in the grounds of a west Belfast police station. The device was discovered at Woodbourne PSNI station on the Stewartstown Road. A full search of the grounds is continuing and Army technical experts are at the scene.
Boy's Death Probed
A post mortem examination to establish the cause of a sudden death is expected to take place on Thursday as the PSNI continue investigating the death of a 16-year-old boy at a house in the Lagmore area on the outskirts of west Belfast. The emergency services received a report that the boy had collapsed at the house in the White Glen area at about 8.45pm on Wednesday night.
Stab Suspect For Court
A man is expected to appear at Strabane Magistrates Court on Thursday following police investigations into the death of Ciaran Woods in County Fermanagh. Mr Woods, 36, who was from Drumhaw, Lisnaskea, was stabbed to death at a house in the village of Tempo during the early hours of Tuesday. The 34-year-old man is also charged with wounding with intent, hijacking and making threats to kill.
Starving Patients Apology
Following calls by the charity Age Northern Ireland about elderly hospital patients being malnourished because food was not being pureed or cut up or not properly served to them, the Belfast Trust Director of Nursing has apologised. The charity said that elderly patients were being left hungry because they were unable to eat the food left on their hospital tray. They said patients depended on families to both provide the food and feed it to them. Now, Director of Nursing Brenda Creaney said nurses recognised that good nutrition was as important as medication: "Food nutrition is one of the most important parts of the care we as nurses give. We do not always get it right but we do strive to get it right." In a statement, the Department of Health said nutritional standards for patient food in hospitals was launched in 2007 and that trusts had adopted a screening tool to identify those patients who are at most risk.
McDaid Death: Further Charges
Police investigating the murder of Coleraine man Kevin McDaid have charged a 21-year-old man with making threats to kill and intimidation. The main is due to appear at Antrim Magistrates Court on Thursday. The victim, a Catholic community worker, was beaten to death by a loyalist mob in a sectarian attack in the Heights area of the town in May 2009.
Garda Foils Armed Raid
An off-duty Garda has dramatically foiled an armed raid on a post office in Ballsbridge in Dublin. At around 2.30pm yesterday, a man armed with a sawn-off shotgun entered the post-office on Shelbourne Road demanding money. He left with a sum of cash but was spotted by a passing off-duty garda who was cycling past the incident. According to reports this morning, the unarmed Garda leapt from his bike and tackled the armed robber, retrieving both the weapon and the cash to a value of an estimated €8,000. A patrol car arrived at the scene and a suspect was arrested.
City Flybe's To Guernsey
The largest scheduled airline from east Belfast's George Best Belfast City Airport has launched a new direct service to Guernsey. The new weekly service will run every Saturday until the end of August with lead in fares beginning at just £54.99 including taxes and charges. Andrea Hayes, Flybe's General Manager Market Development said last week: "Guernsey have proved extremely popular so this direct flight is a welcome addition. Taking just over one and half hours from Belfast, the direct flight will give Northern Ireland consumers a perfect excuse for a short break to this beautiful island."

A 47-year-old man and a 40-year-old woman have died in a shooting incident in east Belfast in the early hours of Sunday morning. A 15-year-old girl, the daughter of the woman killed in the shooting, has undergone emergency surgery for two gunshot wounds. Her condition is described as "comfortable".

Man Charged Following Death Of Man In Coleraine
A 25-year-old man has been charged with Grievious Bodily Harm (GBH) following the death of a man in Coleraine. A 56-year-old man was found dead in the Silverthorn Avenue area on Tuesday, 13 November. The suspect has also been charged with possession of an offensive weapon with intent to copmmit an indictable offence.

Woman Arrested After Sudden Death Of Man In L'Derry
A woman has been arrested following the sudden death of a man in Magherafelt. A 46-year-old man died in L'Derry in the early hours of Tuesday, 05 December. Police are treating the death as suspicious. A 32-year-old woman has been arrested and is assisting police with their enquiries.
