Arrests follow arms find in Lurgan

A number of people have been arrested following a police operation which uncovered a quantity of arms and explosives in County Armagh.

Police have said they believe the guns found in the nationalist Kilwilkee estate in Lurgan to be linked to dissident republicans.

The planned search of several houses, which took place early on Monday November 19, uncovered a rifle, two handguns, ammunition and a bomb detonator.

Ballistic tests will be carried out on the weapons to find out if they have been used in attacks. Clothing and what may have been two stun guns were also taken away for forensic examination.

It is believed at least one woman was among those detained by police officers investigating the activities of dissident republicans opposed to the Good Friday Agreement. (AMcE)
