Report reveals rising home internet use

New research has found that the number of people accessing the internet from home has increased by 50 percent over the past twelve months.

The findings are revealed in a report published by Continental Research, which has shown that over 15 million people now log on to the internet from their home in comparison with only 10.3 million this time last year.

Challenging the idea that the internet is only understandable by the young, it’s also been revealed that the age group that accesses the internet the most often are individuals between 35-44 years of age. The proportion of women users has also increased, in addition to the levels of use by blue collar workers.

Confidence levels in e-commerce have also risen, with 3.5 million people reporting that they ‘regularly’ buy products online.

“It is now important that the home internet offering is expanded and access is upgraded to provide higher speed, ‘always-on’ connections, at affordable prices,” stressed Colin Shaddick, Director of Continental Research.

“This will stimulate the market considerably and make usage much more frequent as it becomes a regular part of people’s everyday home life.” (CL)
