Police revisit scene of murder in east Belfast
Police investigating the murder of a man in east Belfast last week have made a fresh appeal for information after revisiting the scene of the killing.
Arthur Berryman, 46, was stabbed to death in front of his wife after she answered a knock at the door of their home, off the Woodstock Road, on 31 October. A masked man wielding a knife burst in and struck her on the face. The attacker then stabbed her husband a number of times. Mr Berryman died at the scene. It is believed the killer escaped on foot.
Police who revisited the scene of the killing on Wednesday night have appealed for witnesses to come forward.
Detective Chief Inspector Larry Cheshire said: “This was a savage and sustained attack on a very frail man. I am looking for information regarding anyone who may have had bloodstained clothing, or who had disposed of or changed blood-stained clothing immediately after or in the days following the murder.”
He added that the very nature of the attack indicated that the assailant must have been blood stained. Following the attack, Mr Cheshire said there was nothing to suggest it had been sectarian and a number of motives are being explored. (AMcE)
