Police investigate three overnight fires in Ballymena

Police in Northern Ireland are investigating the cause of three separate fires in Ballymena, County Antrim.

In the first incident, a vacant house in the Sandown Park area of Ballymena was badly damaged in a fire which was discovered shortly after midnight on Friday August 10.

A second fire, discovered shortly at 1am, severely damaged a flat at Dunclug Park in the town. The flat was completely gutted and was vacant at the time of the fire. Detectives investigating the incident believe material may have been pushed through the letterbox and set alight.

The third fire took place in the cab of a van left in the Dunclug Gardens area of Ballymena. Police are unsure how the fire was started and investigations into all three fires are said to be continuing. (AMcE)
