Royal Portrush To Be Confirmed As Irish Open Venue

It is expected that a golf course in County Antrim will be named as the venue for the Irish Open Golf championship during meetings tomorrow.

Royal Portrush Golf Club is set to host the 2012 golf competition this summer, a year earlier that originally intended.

The decision to move the European Tour event northward from Killarney, Co Kerry, comes on the back of the achievements of Ulster golfers winning three majors in the last two years.

Graeme McDowell, Rory McIlroy and Darren Clarke all achieved massive victories on the golf circuit last year.

Clarke won the Open Championship in Kent following the successive US Open victories of McDowell and McIlroy.

It is also hoped that this move will help fuel the effort to get the Open Championship back to Northern Ireland also.
