Man Banned From Belfast For Marching Season
A chef accused of biting a policewoman's leg has been banned from Belfast.
Mr Justice Closkey ordered James Davey to stay out of the city as part of conditions under which he was granted bail.
The High Court heard that Davey’s actions during trouble in east Belfast a week and a half ago were "deplorable".
He is alleged to have spat at orange band supporters as well as biting the police officer while drunk at disorder following a Somme commemoration parade on July 2.
The 21-year-old, from Clandeboye Gardens, Belfast, is charged with assault occasioning actual body harm, provoking a breach of the peace, and resisting arrest.
Eight people were arrested after the trouble and some others were charged later with rioting offences.
Disturbances broke out in the Castelreagh Street, Albertbridge Road and Mountpottinger Road areas after the parade, and fireworks were thrown from crowds.
Four police officers suffered minor injuries.
The court heard Davey had been drinking tequila after finishing work and was so drunk he cannot remember what happened.
Defence barrister John O'Connor stressed that his client was not charged with rioting offences.
A lawyer for the prosecution said Davey spat at band supporters as the parade passed by, then resisted arrest by biting a policewoman's thigh.
Davey, who is from a mixed marriage, was told to spend the marching season with relatives in Downpatrick.
He was banned from drinking alcohol but will be able to travel to Belfast for his work at a city centre restaurant.
