Policing Parades Costs £26m
Alliance Policing Board member Chris Lyttle has described as "shocking and unsustainable" news that that the cost of policing parades and parades-related protests between April and October 2013 has amounted to £26m.
The figures were released by PSNI to the Policing Board.
Mr Lyttle said: "It is shocking that so much money has had to be spent on policing parades and parades related protests in seven months. This money should have been spent on community policing and protecting against the terrorist threat.
"It is unsustainable to expect the Police to continue to spend so much of their budget on parades. At a time when dissident republicans have left three bombs in Belfast city centre in recent weeks, this money could have been better spent on protecting the public from the current terrorist threat.
"Fundamentally, there is a need for everybody to respect the rule of law, including those involved in both parading and protesting. If they had done that, this money could have been better spent on things that the community needed."

Terrorism Threat Level Reduced To 'SUBSTANTIAL'

Education Minister Welcomes Cross-Community Cycling Initiative
The Education Minister, Paul Givan, has welcomed a new cross-community cycling initiative in Dromore, spearheaded by the PSNI. With the support of a local bicycle shop, pupils from Dromore Central Primary School and St Colman's Primary School have been fixing up used bicycles then donating them to two charities who give them out to local families.
