Minister Launches Castlereagh Regeneration Proposal

Social Development Minister Mervyn Storey has launched an Integrated Development Framework for the urban areas of Castlereagh Borough.

The new framework sets out a proposal for the urban areas within the Castlereagh Borough.

Speaking following a visit to Castlereagh Council Offices to meet those involved in the development of the framework, Minister Storey said: "In these current challenging economic times, now is the right time to set out how Castlereagh plans to grow and prosper for coming generations. The regeneration process mapped out in this new plan is specific to the diverse range of needs within the urban area. It will help lead Castlereagh towards a new vibrant and exciting future by providing a clear image of how the borough can utilise its best features and ensure its continuing success and prosperity.

"These plans are good news for the people of Castlereagh Borough. It will provide opportunities for regeneration and development which will assist in attracting investors, traders, employers and visitors to the area. The proposals are ambitious and will take time to implement but are achievable through persistence and a willingness to work in partnership to achieve results."

Mayor of Castlereagh Jack Beattie said: "The Castlereagh Urban Integrated Development Framework has enabled the Council to focus on the regeneration of urban areas across the Borough by creating plans that will enhance the business districts within Dundonald, Forestside and Carryduff. It is hoped that the proposed plans will make a valuable contribution to local areas by integrating town centres with the wider environment and utilising undeveloped land. This is great news for people living, visiting or working within Castlereagh and I look forward to seeing the full impact of these plans over the coming months."
