Belfast City Council Wins Prestigious Award

Belfast City Council has been recognised for its support of entrepreneurs in the city by winning an award.

The council won the High Impact Host Award for its contribution to Global Entrepreneurship Week (GEW) last month.

GEW ran from 17-23 November with this year's theme 'Get Connected' encouraging local companies and new entrepreneurs to make the most of business start-up, networking and development opportunities.

The council funded a series of free workshops in the city in the run up to, and during, the week with support from Invest Northern Ireland and the European Regional Development Fund under the Sustainable Competitiveness Programme for Northern Ireland.

The workshops focused on digital marketing to promote business; the generating of business ideas; online payment systems for businesses; social enterprise and the Lean methodology to assess which products will succeed in a marketplace and which will not.

The council also facilitated a free networking event for the Belfast Entrepreneurs Network (BEN) in conjunction with Queen's University where entrepreneurs in the city learned about the benefits of using networks to stimulate and boost their businesses.
