Council To Donate Street Sign To Van Morrison

Belfast City Council is to donate the original 'Hyndford Street' sign to Van Morrison for his 70th birthday.

Belfast-born Morrison received a knighthood in the Queen's birthday honours list last month.

The Council agreed to donate the street sign following a request from east Belfast MLA Sammy Douglas.

The sign will form part of a special art piece by local artist Ross Wilson, to be presented to the Belfast crooner who will turn 70 on 31 August.

Lord Mayor of Belfast, Arder Carson, said: "It's our pleasure to make this donation in honour of one the city's most famous and successful sons. Van is a household name, not just here in Belfast, but across the world. It's a special year for Van and I know his fans will be looking forward to joining in the birthday celebrations."
