Stolen Car Rams Shop In Belfast

Police are appealing for information after a stolen car rammed into the shutters of a shop in the Wellington Place area of Belfast in the early hours of Sunday morning.

A white Volkswagen Passat, which had earlier been stolen from the Bangor area, drove into the shutter of the shop at approximately 3.30am.

The window of the premises was smashed during the incident.

An electric junction box on the street was also damaged.

The car was later found on fire in the Roumania Rise area of West Belfast.

Police are appealing for anyone with information to contact them.

Businesses Damaged By Blaze In Portstewart
An investigation has launched after a number of businesses were damaged by a blaze in The Diamond in Portstewart. The alarm was raised at 5am on Monday, however fire crews were called back at around 9.30am. A chip shop, coffee shop and hairdressers were damaged as a result. An investigation into the cause of the fire is underway.

Shop assistants threatened at gunpoint
Police are appealing for information after two shop assistants were threatened by armed men in south Belfast last night. The men entered the shop on the Upper Malone Road at around 8.30pm and threatened staff with a handgun and knife. One of those threatened was a 16-year-old female.

NIRC Shop Vacancy Survey Results Described As 'Shocking'
The Northern Ireland Independent Retail Trade Association (NIIRTA) has described the NIRC Shop Vacancy survey findings as "shocking". The surbey shows that 1 in 5 local shops are now vacant and that Northern Ireland has not just the highest shop vacancy rate in the UK, but nearly twice the national average.

Appeal As Defibrillator Stolen In West Belfast
Police have launched an appeal for information after a defibrillator was stolen from a shop in west Belfast. It's understood the potentially lifesaving device was removed from the outside of a shop on the Glen Road in the early hours of Sunday morning, 26 January. Detectives are appealing for information.
