Armed Man Robs Shop In Co Down

A man armed with a knife has robbed a shop in County Down.

The incident happened in the Central Promenade area of Newcastle at around 8.25pm on Tuesday.

The man made off with a sum of money and a staff member's mobile phone. He also got one of the staff members to carry a safe outside, however the staff member dropped the safe in the street and the man made off on foot.

Detective Inspector Graham said: "I would appeal to anyone who saw this man or who knows anything about this incident to contact Downpatrick Police Station on the non emergency number 101. Or if someone would prefer to provide information without giving their details, they can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers and speak to them anonymously on 0800 555 111."

A man has been hospitalised for treatment after he was assaulted by up to seven masked assailants in Magherafelt, Co L'Derry. Masked Gang Assault Man With Machete
A gang of five masked men wielding a machete have assaulted a 24 year-old male during an incident in Ballymena. The victim was left with head injuries following the suspected paramilitary-style assault on Wednesday night, 18 March. The gang forced their way into an apartment on Casement Street at around 11.

Woman Left Frightened After West Belfast Burglary
A woman has been left shaken after she was forced to the ground and threatened by three males who had forced entry to her home. Police have launched an investigation following the aggravated burglary in west Belfast on Wednesday evening, 18 March.

Man Arrested Over INLA Drug Activity
Detectives investigating drug activities within the INLA paramilitary group have made an arrest. The 33 year-old suspect was detained following a search in west Belfast on Tuesday evening, 10 March, during which a quantity of class B and C drugs were seized. A substantial sum of money and the drug pregabalin were also discovered.

Covid-19: NI Total Jumps To 18
Two further cases of the Covid-19 strain of coronavirus have been identified in Northern Ireland. Both cases are adults and are "secondary transmissions", meaning they can be linked to another infected individual who travelled to northern Italy. It brings totals in Northern Ireland to 18.
