Investigation Launched After Armed Robbery In East Belfast

An investigation has been launched following an armed robbery at a fast food outlet in east Belfast.

The incident happened at McDonald's in Connswater Retail Park in the early hours of Monday morning, 01 January.

A man carrying a suspected firearm approached a member of staff and demanded money.

The suspect was wearing a black hoodie, gloves and had a scarf covering his face.

He made off on a bicycle with a sum of cash.

The staff member was not injured but was left shaken.

Alliance Councillor David Armitage condemned the incident.

He said: "The thug behind this incident clearly has no regard for the safety of others and is a danger to society. Connswater is a growing shopping complex and incidents such as this is not indicative of the area or its people.

"I would appeal to anyone with information on this incident to contact police with it immediately so this dangerous individual can be taken off the streets."
