Elderly Woman Injured During Carjacking In West Belfast

An elderly woman has been injured after being attacked during an attempted carjacking in west Belfast.

A man approached the woman in the Cavendish Square area shortly before 4.30pm on Wednesday, 11 May, and tried to take her car keys.

The victim got into a struggle with the man and was assaulted. The suspect left the scene empty handed.

The woman was left badly bruised.

A short time later, an attempt was made to hijack a van on the Falls Road.

The driver of the van was assaulted and the suspect fled the scene and was hit by a passing white car.

A 24-year-old man was arrested and is currently in police custody.

The driver of the van was left badly shaken, according to the PSNI.

Police are appealing for anyone with information to contact them.

22-Year-Old Man Jailed For Rape At Laganside Crown Court
A 22-year-old man has been sentenced to six years for rape at Laganside Crown Court. Ahmad Alsbaihi was sentenced to six years. He will serve three years in custody and three years on licence. He will be placed on the Sex Offenders Register and will be subject to a Sexual Offences Prevention Order (SOPO) for 10 years.

Woman Found Unconscious On Co Down Road
A woman has been found unconscious on a road in County Down. The woman, aged in her 50s, was discovered on the Sheepland Road at around 4.30am on Sunday. She was taken to hospital where she is believed to be in a serious condition.

Three men in court over carjacking
Three men were due to appear before Belfast Magistrates Court today in connection with the hijacking of a car on the outskirts of Belfast. A 19-year-old man and an 18-year-old man will be charged with hijacking, while a 21-year-old man will be charged with aiding and abetting the hijacking.

Belfast Man Handed Two-Year Stalking Protection Order
