Major Search Operation To Resume For Missing Light Aircraft

A major search operation is to resume after a light aircraft went missing leaving the City of Derry airport.

The microlight aircraft, which was carrying two passengers, is understood to have been bound for Scotland.

The aircraft was reported overdue at 8.30pm on Thursday, 09 June.

On Thursday evening, five lifeboats were launched from Larne and Red Bay in Northern Ireland and Portpatrick in Scotland.

Fog forced the Coastguard to suspend its search, however it is expected to start as soon as the fog lifts.
