Chief Constable Marks 15th Anniversary of PSNI
Northern Ireland's Chief Constable George Hamilton has addressed a conference to mark the 15th anniversary of the establishment of the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI).
The conference was titled 'Reflecting and Refocusing' and during his speech, the Chief Constable said that it was a "real privilege" to mark the anniversary and the progress that has been made over the years.
He added: "Fifteen years on from the symbolic changes that gave life to the Police Service of Northern Ireland, it is appropriate to pause for a moment and reflect on where we have come from and what we have learned; before turning our attention to the challenges and opportunities ahead."
Mr Hamilton later admitted that unresolved issues from the Troubles are "draining" the organisation's budget. He added that dealing with the past, parades and protests, and flags and symbols drained budgets and were "sapping community confidence".
He called for resolutions similar to the deal struck earlier this year in relation to the Ardoyne parade dispute.
The PSNI was formed in November 2001 to replace the Royal Ulster Constabulary (RUC).

Over £1m Secured For Early Years Fund
