Public Stop Attempted Hijacker In L'Derry

Members of the public intervened to stop an attempted hijacking in L'Derry.

A man approached a silver Toyota Avensis in the Carlisle Road area just after 11.45am on Saturday, 10 March.

The man damaged the window wipers and the bonnet before getting into the vehicle and trying to make off in it.

A 35-year-old man was arrested at the scene and has been detained in police custody.

Police thanked the members of the public and are appealing for witnesses to contact them.

Police Cancel Appeal For Missing Omagh Man
Police have said they believe missing Omagh man, Shane Sharkey, has been found in the Republic of Ireland. A police appeal for help in finding the 35-year-old has been cancelled, with police saying they now believe they know where he is. No further details have been released but police thanked the public for their help.

An Alliance councillor has described an incident in which a teenage woman was sexually assaulted in Bangor as "horrific". The incident occurred at around 9.40pm last night when a 19-year-old was attacked as she walked through Byransford Meadow in the town.

Man Shot In County Down
A 28-year-old man has been shot in the leg in a gun attack in County Down. The man was getting out of his car at the Quays in Killyleagh at about 1.00am on Wednesday morning when a man approached him and shot him. The man is recovering in hospital where his injuries are not thought to be life threatening.

Co Fermanagh man suffers broken nose in robbery
A Co Fermanagh man has suffered a broken nose after being assaulted by two men at his home in Enniskillen. The 65-year-old man was confronted by two men who forced their way into his home on Sunday. They then assaulted him before robbing his home. It is understood that a sum of money was taken during the robbery.

Teens Charged Over Belfast Disorder
Two teenagers have been charged with offences relating to disorder in north Belfast this summer. Trouble erupted in the New Lodge area of the city on 08 August when contractors were sent in to dismantle a bonfire. A violent stand off ensued before police withdrew and the pyre, which was located close to flats, was set alight as planned.
