Weather Warning For Heavy Rain Issued In NI

A yellow weather warning for heavy rain and strong winds has been issued in Northern Ireland.

The warning has been put in place from noon on Wednesday, 14 March, until noon on Thursday, 15 March.

The rain is expected to be heavy in Co Down with string easterly winds with coastal gales.

A Met Office spokesperson said: "Flooding of a few homes and businesses is possible while some flooding of roads may result in longer journey times and disruption to bus and rail services. The southeast winds may also prove an additional hazard with delays for high sided vehicles on exposed routes and delays to air and ferry transport."

Further outbreaks of heavy, thundery, rain are expected to spread from the south during today and overnight into Friday, with the potential for some torrential downpours in places.

The warning comes into effect on midnight on Friday, 08 December, until 6pm on Saturday, 09 December. Warning Issued After Rogue Traders Offer Power Washing In Belfast
The PSNI have issued a warning for the public to be vigilant after two 'rogue' traders were offering power washing services in Belfast. The men, who are travelling in a small white van with a Dublin registration plate, were operating in the Malone Road and Balmoral road area of the city at around 9am on Thursday, 23 November.

Warning Issued Over Speeding Penalty Scam
Police have issued a warning to the public to be aware of a speeding penalty scam in England. No reports of the scam have been received in NI, however the PSNI is warning people to be vigilant after an official-looking form is being emailed to drivers stating that their vehicle has been recorded driving in excess of a speed limit.

A yellow weather warning for ice has once again been issued throughout Northern Ireland. The warning has been put in place from 5pm on Friday, 15 December, until 11am on Saturday, 15 December. However, the extent of the ice is expected to be less than the last few days.

Severe Gale Force Winds Expected Across NI
Prolonged heavy rain and gale force winds are expected to last until the early hours of Sunday morning, according to the Met Office. Severe gale force winds with gusts of up to 50mph are expected in some places and there is also a high risk of flooding in some areas. 'Yellow' Warning As Heavy Rain Expected
The UK Met Office has issued a 'yellow' weather warning for Northern Ireland for Sunday, when heavy rain and strong winds are likely to cause localised flooding across the region. Wet and windy weather will cross the UK from the west during Sunday. Rainfall accumulations of 15 to 25mm are expected quite widely with 35mm or more locally.

A yellow warning for snow and ice is in place across Northern Ireland following what is said to have been the coldest night of the year. The Met Office reported that ice has formed on surfaces, with higher ground expected to see continued snowfall. A mixture of rain and sleet is expected across lower areas throughout the day.

Heavy rain leads to flooding
Heavy rainfall has led to widespread flooding throughout Northern Ireland. The Tuesday afternoon downpour has particularly affected areas of East Belfast. Connswater Shopping Centre has been flooded, with reports that water poured through ceiling vents. Members of the public were evacuated.
