Man Charged After Woman Killed In North Belfast Crash

A man has been charged with causing death by dangerous driving after a woman was hit by a stolen car in north Belfast.

The stolen vehicle was being chased by police in the Ballysillan area before it crashed on Thursday, 19 April.

The suspect is to appear before Belfast Magistrates Court today, 20 April.

The Police Ombudsman has launched an investigation.

The PSNI deployed a stinger to stop the Audi A4, which had been stolen from outside a house in the Cavehill Road area of Belfast.

SDLP North Belfast Councillor Paul McCusker said: "Death drivers have no place in our society and serve no other purpose than to terrorise communities.

"My thoughts go out to the family and I would appeal for anyone with information to come forward to the PSNI."

The 47-year-old man and 18-year-old woman, who are believed to be father and daughter, were injured during the incident at Evelyn Gardens in Skegoneill after 8.30am this morning. SDLP Policing Board member Alex Attwood has warned that the west Belfast battalion of the UDA has extended its influence and control to other parts of Belfast. Mr Attwood was speaking following the recent violence in north Belfast were Catholic teenager Gerard Lawlor was murdered by the UFF – a militant wing of the UDA.

Police are appealing for information after World War One medals were stolen during a burglary in north Belfast. The incident happened in the Parkmount Road area sometime between 9pm on Saturday and 9.30am on Sunday.

West Belfast Death 'Suspicious'
The PSNI is currently investigating the death of a man at a flat in west Belfast on Saturday. It is thought that the death of the 31-year-old may have been "suspicious". Police said they wanted to speak to anyone who was in the St Mary's Gardens area between 01:00 and mid-afternoon on Saturday 13 September and noticed any suspicious activity.

Attack On North Belfast Home Treated As Hate Crime
Police are treating an attack on a house in north Belfast as a hate crime. Masked men smashed the windows at the front of a property in the Crumlin Road area just after midnight on Wednesday. Three men fled from the scene on foot. A police spokesperson said: "This incident is being treated as a hate crime and enquiries into the matter are ongoing.

Belfast Murders Arrest - Man Released
A 57-year-old man arrested in England by detectives investigating the Belfast murders of Gary Convie and Eamon Fox in May 1994 and of Sean McParland in February the same year has been released. 55-year-old Mr McParland was shot in Skegoniel Avenue in north Belfast on 17 February while babysitting and died a week later.

Teenager Seriously Injured In Attack
A teenager is in a serious condition in hospital after being attacked in the north Belfast area on Saturday. The 16-year-old suffered head injuries during the assault which occurred on the Antrim Road at around 8pm. A 43-year-old man has been arrested. Police are appealing to anyone with information to contact them.

Pair arrested over teenager's rape
Police have arrested two males in connection with the serious sexual assault of a woman in north Belfast earlier this week. The arrests are in relation to an incident which took place in the Woodvale Park area of the city on Monday evening, when a woman, aged in her late teens, was raped and beaten by two males as she made her way home.

A Belfast man has been remanded in custody in connection with a car crash in which a 22-year-old man died. Mark John Page, of Joanmount Park in Belfast appeared in court today on charges of dangerous driving causing death, hijacking, and having an offensive weapon.

Four injured in crash
Four people have been injured following an accident in North Belfast at around 1am this morning. Eight people are believed to have been travelling in the Ford Focus, which crashed on the Woodvale Road, close to the Woodvale Park area of the city. The driver was later arrested on suspicion of driving whilst unfit.
