Belfast Homeless Man Burned In Tent
Police are investigating after a homeless man suffered serious burns while sleeping in a tent in Belfast over the weekend.
The man in his 20's was taken to hospital for treatment to injuries on his feet and legs following the attack on Middlepath Street shortly before 10pm on Saturday 05 January.
Police were alerted to the incident around an hour after it occurred.
Detective Sergeant Dane said: "Shortly before 10.45pm police received a report that a man had suffered burns to his feet and lower legs after the tent he was sleeping in caught fire.
"We are working to establish the cause of the fire and I am appealing for anyone who has any information that can assist with the investigation to contact detectives in Musgrave on 101 quoting reference 1215 05/01/19."
North Belfast councillor Paul McCusker said the incident highlights the vulnerability of those sleeping rough on the streets of Belfast.
He added: "I hope he has a very speedy recovery and would like to pay tribute to all the volunteers who made sure he got the help he needed last night."

A man aged in his 50s has died in a house fire in Magherafelt, Co L'Derry An investigation has been launched into the cause of the fire at a house on Highfield Road, however police said that they don't believe the fire was suspicious. The man's identity has not yet been released.

Police have said they believe missing Omagh man, Shane Sharkey, has been found in the Republic of Ireland. A police appeal for help in finding the 35-year-old has been cancelled, with police saying they now believe they know where he is. A 22-year-old man has been arrested in connection with a report of an assault at licenced premises at the Rathfriland Road area of Dromara. Detective Inspector Bell said: "Shortly before 10:10pm on Friday 15th December, it was reported that an altercation occurred at a bar in the area following three men refused entry to the premises.
