Arrest After Attempted Hijacking In L'Derry

A man has been arrested after an attempted hijacking of a car in L'Derry while a woman and two children were in the vehicle.

Police said the man entered the driver's seat in the Ballymagroarty area of the city shortly before 1am this morning, Thursday 25 April, and tried to drive off.

He also attempted to take the handbag of the woman, who was sitting in the front passenger seat while the children were in the back.

A suspect was arrested a short time later on suspicion of attempted hijacking, attempted robbery and being in charge of a vehicle while unfit through drink or drugs.

The woman and children were unharmed.

Police have appealed for anyone with information to contact detectives in Strand Road on 101, or alternatively Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
